Abstract

21,483. Aktiebolaget Separator. Sept. 21, 1911, [Convention date]. Channels and reservoirs in bearings.-A device for continuously lubricating the bearings of shafts in machines comprises a wheel b dipping into oil in the bottom of a casing a. Oil splashed by the wheel is collected in channels d on the wall of the casing, and is conveyed by passages e to the outer ends of the bearings. Helical passages f, f<1> in the shaft or in the bearings cause the oil to flow inwardly through the bearings and to return to the oil-well. If one bearing requires more oil than the other, the highest point of the channel d may be placed nearer the bearing that requires less oil: In the case of the bearings for the lower shaft, collecting-passages i, i<1> are formed in the bushes h, h<1>. A constant level of oil is maintained in the casing by means of an overflow pipe; and fresh oil is supplied continuously from a sight-feed or other lubricator on the upper part of the casing.
