Abstract
432,441. Lubricating spinning-rings. CHADWICK, F., 35, Highgate Terrace, Fulwood, PRESTON TYRE - FABRIC MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., and COWPERTHWAITE, W., Croft Street Mill, Croft Street, both in Preston, Lancashire. Feb. 16, 1934, No. 5139. [Classes 12 (ii) and 12 (iii)] [See also Group IX] Travellers running upon rings are lubricated by forming or providing metal parts in the ring, such parts being in such close juxtaposition that they will receive by capillary action and transfer to the inner face of the ring, also by capillary action, a continuous supply of lubricant. A ring rail 6, carries rings 7 upon which revolve travellers 8 of strong wire part of which engages the inner face of the ring. The ring plate forms a chamber 9 for lubricant which is fed by a twisted wire 12 to an orifice 11 communicating with a groove 10 of capillary dimension. The stem of the traveller 8 may be clear of groove 10 or may have positive rubbing contact with an edge thereof, the heat generated in the machine serving to liquefy the lubricant which consequently sheds down the ring 7 and around the lower edge thereof. In modifications the groove 10 is comparatively wide and is packed to produce capillary passages by (1) a plain wire, (2) twisted flex (3) a number of light annular metal plates and (4) a number of thin plates of corrugated form. Other filling materials for the groove may be a flat twisted wire, a strip or strips of metal gauze or braided wire. Flow of lubricant ceases on the viscosity increasing due to cooling.
