Abstract
584,067. Compound asbestos paper &c. UNITY HEATING, Ltd., and YOUNG, J. M. May 24, 1944, No. 10060. [Classes 96 and 140] [Also in Groups XI and XXXVI] A flexible electric heating element is made in continuous strip form by feeding two or more strips 3, 4 of asbestos paper &c. and nickelchromium wires 1, 2 from supply rolls &c. 7, 8 and 5, 6 respectively, past mechanism which superimposes the wires and strips and adhesively bonds them together by means of pressure rollers 9, 10 and 16, 17 using a synthetic resin varnish &c. adhesive previously applied to one of more of the strips. The wires are drawn through a guide plate 11 to space them apart and between a roller 13 and table 12 on which is the adhesive 14. A heating device 15 or heated pressure rollers may be used, and the strip collected on a take-up drum &c. 18. The adhesive and sheet material are heat resistant, and for good insulation the sheet material may be pervious to the adhesive, and the adhesive waterproof. The strips are cut to any length desired and may be used in lowtemperature panel heating &c. or the surface of a wall covered with a single strip by doublefolding.
