Abstract

583,811. Fireproofing. JORDAN, L. A., and O'NEILL, L. A. Oct. 5, 1943, No. 16339. [Class 140] Organic fibrous materials such as fibres, fabrics, or wood are rendered fire-resistant by precipitating therein both iron and antimony oxides by the action of an aqueous alkali solution on a previously applied mixture of an iron salt such as ferrous sulphate and a compatible, watersoluble antimony salt in which antimony forms the positive radicle, the mixture having been applied as an aqueous solution and dried. The antimony compound may be the trifluoride, the double salt of this compound with sodium, potassium or ammonium fluoride, antimony pentafluoride, or .an organic antimony compound such as the lactate. The alkali may be sodium carbonate. The fabric may be further treated with chlorinated organic compounds such as a solution of chlorinated rubber or an aqueous emulsion of chlorinated paraffin wax, or with an aqueous dispersion of antimony oxide or sulphide with casein or glue, subsequently insolubilized with formaldehyde. Specification 579,328 is referred to.
