Abstract

Highly pigmented cellulosic fibres for paper-making having most of the pigment within and the rest on and around them are made by agitating aqueous pulp with sufficient calcium chloride to exceed the dry weight of fibres and yield a calcium chloride concentration around 15 per cent or more by weight, until the fibres are hydrated, gelatinized and impregnated, then adding a soluble salt such as sodium carbonate or borate to precipitate the corresponding calcium compound as pigment.
