530,293. Absorbent paper. WIGGINS, TEAPE & CO. (1919), Ltd., and EDGE, S. R. H. June 21, 1939, No. 18072 [Class 96] Absorbent paper having high wet strength, e.g. for towelling or for impregnation with synthetic resins &c. is prepared by adding to paper pulp, or treating paper with, e.g. 1 to 3 per cent. of an aqueous solution of a water-soluble cellulose ether which may be precipitated or hardened by paper-makers' alum. Pulp may be treated with the ether, using a closed backwater system, and the paper with alum.
