Abstract

297,463. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Sept. 23, 1927, [Convention date]. Paper, treating with special materials. - The tendency to swell shown by paper and like cellulosic products is reduced by treating the paper &c., with aqueous neutral or alkaline solutions of urea or thiourea and formaldehyde, or of resinous condensation products produced therefrom, and then applying heat so as to produce an insoluble condensation product; a treatment with formaldehyde may also be applied. The condensation may be accelerated by the use of catalysts, and softening agents may be added to reduce the brittleness of the products. Specification 278,684, [Class 2 (ii), Cellulose &c.], is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers to the use of aqueous or alkaline solutions of condensation products from sulphur and phenol or from sulphur, phenol, and formaldehyde. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
