Abstract

515,454. Sizes. McLEAN, A., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 2,1938, No. 16591. [Class 121] [Also in Groups VIII, III, and IV] Compositions suitable for rendering materials water-repellent are prepared by digesting an alkali-soluble vegetable protein with an aqueous solution of normal aluminium formate at a raised temperature. In examples (1) alkalisoluble ground-nut protein, water and normal aluminium formate solution are digested for 1¢ hours at 60‹C.; (2) unsized paper from unbleached sulphate woodpulp is sized and rendered water-repellent by impregnation with a diluted solution prepared as in (1), passing between squeeze rollers and drying; (3) unsized tissue paper from bleached sulphite pulp is treated as in (2).
