573,471. Fireproofing permeable materials. JORDAN, L. A., and O'NEILL, L. A. March 11, 1943, No. 3990. [Class 140] Organic fibrous materials such as fibres, fabrics, and wood, are rendered fire-, smoulder-, and weather-resistant over the whole or only part of their depth by treatment with substantially water-insoluble antimony or arsenic compounds, such as the oxides or sulphides dispersed in an aqueous medium in a non-chlorinated vehicle which forms a film on drying and is compatible with an aqueous medium such as casein or glue insolubilized at some stage of the process as by formaldehyde treatment to render it weather-resistant, or a partially-condensed thermosetting resin subsequently insolubilized by stoving, or an oil- (e.g., linseed-oil) or resin emulsion. Using antimony oxide, enough of this is included in, for example a casein solution of 12¢ per cent. strength to yield a content of not less than 10 per cent., and preferably 20-30 per cent. of antimony oxide and 7¢ per cent. of casein based on the initial weight of the material treated.
