Abstract

583,599. Bottling. HALLWORTH, H. Nov. 14, 1944, No. 22491. [Class 125 (ii)] An apparatus for filling bottles or phials singly with a predetermined quantity of liquid, particularly perfume, consists of a frame 10, at the upper end of which is an air pump 11 operatively connected to a beam 15 which is pivotally mounted. The other end of the beam is connected to a treadle, not shown, by a cord 16, and is returned to its position after treadling by a spring 31. A table 20 slides in the frame 10 and is moved in one direction by a lever 21 which is connected to another treadle by a cord 22. A spring 23 returns the table to its orginal position. The lower end of the air pump has a resilient open-ended mouthpiece 25, to receive the neck of the phial 29 placed on the table 20, and the mouthpiece is connected by a pipe 26 of small diameter to an inlet pipe 27, in which is a non-return valve 30, and leading from a reservoir 28 containing the liquid. The first treadle is operated to rock the beam and impart a suction stroke to the piston 13, so extracting air from the phial. A vacuum is created and liquid from the reservoir is forced by atmospheric pressure through the pipes and into the phial. The exact measurement of liquid may be predetermined by controlling the displacement of the piston 13 by. an adjustable screw 18 which regulates the movement of the beam 15.
