Abstract

754,932. Fishing. JOHNSON, G. EALES-. Dec. 11, 1953 [Sept. 24. 1952], No. 23896/52. Class 48. A collapsible fishing rod comprises an elongated flexible tubular member formed for example, of fibre glass, nylon or Terylene (Registered Trade Mark) closed at one end and with valve means adapted for connection to the open other end whereby the member can be filled with fluid such as air, under pressure to render the member self-supporting. The valve may be releasably secured in a rigid handle at the end of the tubular member, or the rigid handle may incorporate a pump and valve and be releasably connected to the tubular member. The thickness of the tubular wall is such that the member does not become stretched. As shown a pump cylinder 6 provided at one end with a bicycle tyre valve 7 is slidingly received within the metal cylinder handle 3 secured to the tubular member 1 and covered with a cork handgrip 4. A cap 9 slidable on the plunger rod 10 screws on to the threaded portion 8 of the handle 3 and a knob 12 secured to the end of rod 10 screws on the boss 14 of cap 9 after inflation of the rod 1 for a fishing operation. To collapse the rod the cylinder 6 is removed from the handle. Specification 754,989 is referred to.
