Abstract

634,813. Siphons. WILLIAMS, S. P. July 29, 1947, No. 20373. Convention date, July 29, 1946. [Class 69 (i)] [Also in Group XXVIII] A priming unit for a siphon; which may be used as a pump, comprises a hollow body 1 provided at one end with a tube 3 which is inserted in the siphon hose 4 and at the other end with a detachable plate 5 through which slides a tubular rod 6, the lower end of which passes through a plunger 7 whilst the upper end 9 opens to atmosphere. Non- return valves 10 and 12 are provided in the tubes 3 and 6 respectively, but these may be held open by screws 11 and 13. For priming the siphon, the valves 10 and 12 are held open and a thumb placed over the opening 9, the plunger being withdrawn in the cylinder 1, so reducing the pressure in the cylinder 14, causing liquid to flow through the siphon. When used as a hand pump the valves 10, 12 are released. If only required for priming a siphon, then the valves 10, 12 may be omitted.
