Convention date, Sept. 18, 1943, [Class 114] In a power plant comprising a plurality of double-shafted opposed piston engines 1 to 4 disposed on either side of a common gearwheel 6, the places of engagement between the engine shaft pinions and the gear-wheel 6 are distributed over the periphery of the gear-wheel. In Fig. 1, the engines 1, 2 are located ahead and connected to the gear-wheel 6 by their upper shafts, whilst engines 3, 4 located behind are connected by their lower shafts to the gear-wheel 6. Disposition of the engines as shown in Fig. 1 provides lateral space about engines 1, 2 for auxiliary plant and by use of the releasable clutches 5 any of the engines may be put out of gear engagement according to the power output required.
