Abstract
583,019. Knitting-machines. HEMPHILL CO. May 26, 1944, No. 19285/45. Convention date, May 29, 1943. Divided out of 582,994. [Class 74 (ii)] Each transfer bit of a circular machine comprises a pair of blades 58, 61, each blade having a yarn-engaging point 59, 62 and being formed of a resilient material initially bent so that the points 59, 62 are separated, but sc that they can be brought together when the bit is withdrawn in the trick in which it is mounted. Each blade is provided with a butt 60, 63, one of the butts of each pair having an effective width greater than the other butt so that the one blade is moved inwardly in advance of the other so that the yarn 64 will slip from one blade before disengaging from the other. In one form, each butt is of rectangular shape, and the butt 60 of the blade which is to be moved in advance of the other is of greater width than the other butt 63. In a modification, one blade 61<1> of each pair has a butt 63<1> provided with a notch 68, and the cam 67<1> which moves the bits inwardly when the yarn is transferred from. the bits to the needles is bevelled where the butts first contact it, and the angle of the bevel grows less acute until its edge is vertically disposed. Means as described in Specification 583,018 may be provided for shogging the dial containing the transfer bits, and the bits may be employed in knitting an inturned welt as described in Specification 582,994.
