Abstract

582,756. Sifting-apparatus. KING, Ltd., G. W., and KING, H. W. M. March 19, 1943, No. 4543. [Class 117] Apparatus for separating swarf from articles, such as screws, after a machining operation, consists of a screen formed of parallel rods 35 ; the alternate rods are connected to form two inter-digitated grids to which relative reciprocating motion is imparted. Simultaneously air currents are directed on to the screen, in a direction against the flow of material, from jets 65, 68 disposed either above or below the screen, and adjustable as to direction in slots in the screen frame. In the construction described one of the grids is stationary, the rods 36 being connected to fixed cross-bracing members 43, 42. The other grid consisting of rods 37 with lugs 49, is supported by rollers 44 on rails 45 and is reciprocated by a connecting rod 60 driven through gearing from a motor 19. The material is fed to the screen from a hopper 15 by a bucket wheel 16, driven from the motor 19 through reduction gearing. Alternatively, the feed shoot may have staggered inclined shelves over which the material falls by gravity, due to reciprocating movement imparted to the shoot. The swarf falls through the screen to a shoot 40, and the screws &c. are delivered at the tail end of the screen to a shoot 12.
