[Class 117] Relates to apparatus for sorting balls of the kind comprising a runway 1, provided with apertures of progressively increasing size, and consists in feeding the balls down an inclined shoot 3, which is replenished from a hopper 2 by a vertically reciprocating carrier 7 with an inclined grooved upper edge 8, which in its upper position forms a continuation of the shoot. Members 60 are carried resiliently on a rock shaft 32 and are actuated to remove the balls that have settled in the apertures and fail to pass through, and to forward them to the next aperture in the series. The balls are fed to the runway one at a time from the shoot by a trap 5 which is rocked between a horizontal and vertical position by connection with the rock shaft 32. The shaft 32 is rocked by an eccentric 35 on the motor shaft 15 and a connecting rod 30 formed in two parts connected by a spring 70. The shaft 15 also drives the crank-shaft by which the carrier 7 is reciprocated. The shoot 3 preferably has a bottom 31 to which is imparted a jerky reciprocating movement by a spring 38 and a slide 39 having a lost motion connection with the bottom 31 and actuated from the rock-shaft 32 by a cord 37.
