. l'ph int ntion primarily has forl itseobject strapiconnection li, serves'toimpartrecipro into sizablelnmps,- Jasmuch waste is oncetoeprovidee a; simple and eflicient. apparatus for feeding coal to 1:3' breaker or similar .device {and for :1 separating and grading ,f it while: so feeding it. 1
iln breaking-coal it is desired to break it sioned bywrough treatment resulting in ipulr verization; It isytherefore the purposeaof my present invention to provide means? for slowly feeding the coal to the breaker-in successive steps and for .efficiently grading it to the desired size and separating the-slate or other undesirable content. Thereforein its more detailed naturethe invention seeks to provide a hopper;- torreceive' the coal, a tablexonto which the coal is deposited and which is composed ofrotate able rollers, Lsa'id table being reciprocable,
and said hopper stationary and provided with a depending pusher skirt extending down into proximity with the rollers for pushing the coal mass along each time the table moves rearwardly.
With the above andother objects in view that will hereinafter appear, the invention still further resides in the novel details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, all of which will be first fully described, then be particularly pointed out in the appended claims, reference being hadito the accompanying drawings, in whichz Figure 1' is a vertical longitudinal section of the invention. I
Figure 2 is a plan view.
Figure 3 is a vertical cross sect-ion'take on the line 33 of Figure 1. W
In the drawings, 1 indicates a receiving hopper having a flared receiving throatway and a depending abutment skirt 2 and forwardly extended neck portion 3.
A suitable supporting table or guideway 4 may be provided to serve as a supporting medium for the reciprocable grading and screening table 5 provided with side wings 6 and a receiving floor composed of a plurality of longitudinally positioned spaced rollers 7 mounted in suitable bearings at the ends of the table and to which rotation (in like direction to all rollers) is transmitted through-the connections 8 from the pulley connections 9 to which said motion is initially imparted. A suitable pitman 1O is catory-niotion to the: said table 5. J
P Rotation .is'imparted to" the fixed eccentric shaft through I sprocket and: chain; connec? tionaiwith-lthe.pulley shaft andthe chain is. sufiicientlyfiloose {or slack to permit "the" liinitedreciprocable rmovement of the power transmitting mechanisms and 9.1The same: can be said of the belt which drives the lpnilley9; v A? -jT e' neck 'portion 3 witlrwhich the hopper is provlded may extendsubstantially to tlie'fore I end of the reciproca'ble table 5 I and itwill be readily understood that as the coal is fed into the hopp'er' it will 'deposi t down upon thesaid table "and'z as the forward stroke of reciprocation takes place" the said .coal will be fed-along thattablegand off its fore or d-ischargeend. The hopper-is adapted to be stationarily supported, and the sep:
arator table, including the roller rotation mentskirt 2 and upon the succeeding rearward movement of the said table that skirt Wlll act to force the coal forwardly, thus effecting a step-by-step positive feed of the coal off the fore end of the said table. By reason of the spaced relation of the rollers 7 of the table and the fact that they rotate in like direction the function of that table will be to tend to turn edgewise such fiat pieces of coal as are small enough tofall through the spaces between the rollers, thus serving both to grade the coal to the desired like. Also, by rotating all of the rollers in like direction it is impossible for any ofthe size and to screen the same of slate and the coal lumps to lodge between the same and clog the mechanism.
In practical use the device is preferably positioned to discharge at a low point upon, the breaking mechanismin the manner indicated in Figure 1 of the drawings. This overcomes waste by pulverization due to fall'- ing of the coal any considerable distance fromxofl" the feeder;
This application is a division of my application for Letters Patent filed June 3, 1925, Serial No. 34,707.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it is thought that the novel details of construction, the manner of operation and means for separating coal and slate and delivering the coal onto a breaker, said means comprising a longitudinally reciprocating table for receiving the coal and delivering it to the separator tableby gravity,.a transverse fixed abutment above the separator table for holding the coal against movement in one direction While the table is being at ciprocated, means for effecting reciprocation of the table, said table including rotating separator. rollers between which the slate passes, said rollers being located with their axes lying in the direction of reciprocation, substantially as shown and described.
2. Incapparatusfof the class described, means for separating coal and slate and delivering the coal onto a breaker, said means comprising a longitudinally reciprocating v separator table, a hopper located above the table for receiving the coal and delivering it to the separator table by gravity, a transverse fixed abutment depending verticall from the hopper into close proximity wit the separator table and adapted for holding the coal against movement i'none direction a While the table is being reciprocated, a neck portion extending forwardly from the hopper over and substantially parallel the table to provlde a restricted passageway," and means for effecting reciprocation of the table for the purposes described. separator table, a hopper located above the 3a In apparatus of the class described, means for separating coal and slate and delivering the coal onto a breaker, said means comprising a longitudinally reciprocating separator table, a hopper located above the table forreceiving the coal and delivering it to the separator table by gravity, a transverse fixed abutment depending vertically from the hopper intoclose proximity'with the separator table and adapted for holding the coal against movement in one direction while the table is being reciprocated, said separator table including spaced longitudinal separator elements, and said depending abutment being shaped at its bottom to snugly surround the upper portions'of the separator elements and extend a distance r therebetween, and means for efiecting reciprocation of the tablefor the purposes described. 7
