Abstract
347,039. Separating solid materials. BARKER, W., Shooters Hills, near Longton, Stoke-on-Trent. May 27, 1930, No. 16277. [Class 117.] In apparatus for separating coal and other minerals of the kind in which the materials are caused to slide down an inclined shoot e and over a gap k, the shoot is given rapid vertical vibratory movements of small amplitude to assist the passage of the materials. The arrangement described consists in pivoting the forward end of the shoot at f and imparting the vibratory movements to the rear end l by means of a rotary unbalanced shaft, a cam and spring or an electromagnet and spring. Preferably the materials are fed to the shoot e by a jigger a mounted on a link b and driven by an eccentric d. The front end of the jigger may be more inclined than the rest and disposed so that the materials may slide on to the separating shoot e without an appreciable drop. Successive stages may be provided to treat the materials passing through the gap k, as shown, the jiggers in this case being driven from the preceding one by a lever j. An air blast may be used to assist the movement of the materials on the shoot.
