Abstract

638,125. Charging tunnel furnaces. STEAD & CO., Ltd., J., and WARD, R. March 20, 1948, No. 8319. [Class 51 (ii)] [Also in Group XXX] Charging mechanism for feeding loose articles continuously to a succession of trays passing through a tunnel furnace comprises a vibratory shoot adapted to be fed continuously and to discharge the articles in one direction with respect to the surface of each of the successive trays, and a deflector adapted to intercept the articles between the shoot and the trays and to distribute them over the area provided by the trays. The apparatus shown is arranged for feeding a conveyor 1 of the form described in Specification 638,126 and comprises a hopper 6 communicating with a smaller hopper 8 from which the articles are fed by a vibratory tray 10 on to a vibratory shoot 12 having its discharge end 14 positioned above a deflector 18 which consists of a vertical plate 20 fitted with a semi-conical member 21 and having its ends bent to form side cheeks 22. The shoot 12 is supported by a pivoted strut 13 and is vibrated longitudinally by a bell-crank lever 16 actuated by a reciprocating rod 15 the end of which is fitted with an adjustable striker 17 arranged to impact the tray 10. The shoot may be vibrated by magnetic means.
