Abstract

779,091. Feeding cigarettes &c. into trays. KORBER, K. Oct. 18, 1954 [Oct. 20, 1953], No. 29924/54. Class 94(1). Cigarettes are fed to transfer trays 11 moving on an endless chain through one or more vertical delivery ducts 6 the lower ends 8 of which comprise walls 8a, 8b, pivoted to the upper parts of the ducts so that when displaced by the cigarettes in the tray they cut off the flow of cigarettes. The displaceable parts of the ducts may also operate control means to alter the speed of the trays. The cigarettes 2 are fed over an inclined plate 3 to a hopper 15 with three feed ducts A, B, C each having rotary eccentrically mounted rods 5 which feed the cigarettes into the ducts 6. The lower duct walls are supported on hinges 7 and project into the trays which have gaps in their end walls to allow of the passage of the ducts and of an inclined guide plate 13 projecting into the tray being fed. Guide plates 14 prevent the cigarettes falling out between the ducts. As each tray becomes filled the left-hand walls 8a of the ducts are deflected by the cigarettes to reduce the width of the ducts and so stop the flow. If there are gaps left in the upper surface of the cigarettes, when such gaps pass beneath a duct 8 the wall 8a returns to the vertical position and the flow of cigarettes is resumed to fill the gaps. The upper ends of the feed ducts may be arranged at different levels so that the individual ducts are supplied uniformly with cigarettes.
