Abstract

Sorting on inclined endless bands. -In apparatus for sorting refuse &c. of the kind in which the mixed materials are delivered on to an endless carrier belt inclined transversely to its direction of travel, a screen is arranged above the belt so that the materials passing through the screen have a vertical drop that will impart a bouncing movement to the cinders or other like substances. The arrangement shown in Fig. 1 comprises a rotary screen b, a casing c, and the endless transversely-inclined belt e, The screen removes the coarser and flatter substances which are delivered at d. The substances passing through the screen into the casing c drop on to the belt. Cinders and like substances with a tendency to roll are delivered at g and more adherent substances such as ashes and vegetable matter are carried forward and delivered at f. The rotary screen may be replaced by a reciprocating screen. Preferably, the screen meshes are graded, either in size or number, so as to equalize the delivery of the materials over the length of the belt.
