Abstract
582,082. Pipe joints. GUY, H. L., NOAD, R..B., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. May 7, 1941, No. 5951. [Class 99 (i)] In a fluid tight connection from an inner member such as a bearing housing 6 located within and movable relatively to an enclosing wall 8, the connecting pipe 19 passes through a clearance hole in the wall and is enclosed in a flexible tube 26 connected to the wall and to the inner member. One side of the bearing housing is closed by a member 11 with packing at 13. Oil is supplied through a bore 15 in the member 6 and flows out through a bore 16. The pipe 19 which is screwed into the bore 15 is flanged at 22 to retain between washers 24 a disc member 25 soldered to the lower end of metal bellows 26 whose upper end is secured to a ring 27 screwed into the wall 8. In a modification the pipe 19 encloses a coaxial pipe which may carry an air supply while oil may be supplied through the annular space between the pipes. Alternatively, in this modification one of the coaxial tubes may be used for supply and the other for outflow of fluid to the space within the housing.
