Cable joints.-The filling tube 25 connected to the inner sleeve of the cable joint casing of the parent Specification is furnished with an expansion chamber 24 either integral with the tube or secured thereto. The chamber contains gas neutral to the oil or other filling liquid or if air is used it is separated from the oil, by a layer of inert liquid. The size of the chamber 24 may be varied according to the length of the cable, and its diameter is great so that the expansion of the oil &c. does not cause any considerable rise in pressure.
