Abstract
608,755. Flexible pipe-lines. MULLER, J. Feb. 7, 1940, No. 2389. Convention date, March 1, 1939. [Classes 99 (i) and 99 (ii)] An insubmersible pipe-line, especially for use in refuelling at sea, comprises flexible pipe lengths 1 surrounded by pneumatic chambers 2, which may be fitted with inflating valves 3. Grooves may be provided in the peripheries of the chambers 2 so as to form longitudinal channels for the passage of conducting or other wires; or these may pass through tubular elements extending through the chambers 2. The pipe lengths are joined by means of ferrules 4 fitted into their ends and united by a screwed coupling-sleeve 27 with packing 26. The ferrules are screwed at 6 into caps 9, which are connected by bolts 10 to two conical sleeves 11, 14, the former of which is notched at 12 to grip the pipe 1, and the latter presses extensible rings into the pipe 1 and against the end of the sleeve 11. The whole is enclosed by protecting-sheaths 22. The pipes are further provided with internal metal helices 29 which ensure the conduction of static electricity developed by friction.
