Abstract

581,816. Ratchet clutches. STEVENS, A. H. (Veeder-Root, Inc.). Dec. 3, 1943, No. 20232. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XIX] The numeral wheel A, Fig. 5, of a counting- machine has a hub 15 connected by a web 16 to a peripheral flange 17 provided with internal ratchet teeth 20. The gear member 11 has a central opening for engaging the hub and a disc portion provided with slots containing pawls 12 adapted to co-operate with the teeth 20 in the numeral wheel. A re-setting pawl 45 adapted to engage a slot in the re-setting shaft on which the wheel is mounted is located in a radial slot in the hub and a web 47 formed in the web 16. The various pawls are spring-loaded and transverse movement in the slots is prevented by a plate P assembled on the hub and abutting the gear member and the webs 16, 47 formed on the web 16. Projections 30, 48 enter grooves in the pawls 12, 45 to retain them against longitudinal withdrawal. Locking is effected by an annular flange 60, Fig. 3, on the web 16. Gear teeth 59 formed on the wheel A co-operate with the usual transfer pinion to advance the next wheel of higher order. The wheel A and a gear member may be moulded from plastic material.
