Abstract
949,987. Variable-speed gearing; toothed gearing. FITCHELL & SACHS A.G. Feb. 21, 1962 [Feb. 24, 1961], No. 6817/62. Headings F2D and F2Q. A planet carrier for planetary gearing in cycle and motor cycle multi-speed gear hubs comprises planet pinions 40 mounted on bearing studs 32 supported between an annular flange member 16 and an end plate 12 which are spaced and riveted together by a number of spacers 18 and pins 20, formed integrally on the flange 16, the bearing studs 32 each having a reduced diameter shank 34, engaging in the plate 12, forming an abutment at one end which together with a retainer sleeve 36, secured by a circlip 38 on a hub extension 14 of the flange 16, prevent axial displacement of the bearing studs. A screw thread may be provided on the hub 14 for operating a back-pedalling brake and the plate 12 has inner teeth 42, or dogs (not shown), for engagement with a toothed clutch member (not shown). The hub 14 and flange 16 together with the spacers 18 and rivet pins 20 are cold-forged, as one member 10, and have the end plate 12 located and riveted thereto by the pins 20. Stud holes 28, 30, in the flanges 16, 12 are concentrically bored and the assembly hardened after which the stud holes are finish ground and the bearing studs together with the planet pinions &c. are fitted.
