Abstract

581,445. Joint-making packing. GENERAL ENGINEERING CO. (RADCLIFFE Ltd., and TAYLOR, S. May 18, 1944, No. 9522. [Class 122 (iii)] In an open-ended, cylindrical, evacuable vessel 1 having a lid 8 and a joint ring 2 secured around its open end by one or more fillets of welding 5, 6, the inner periphery of the joint ring is grooved so that a sealing compound may be introduced into the passage way 4 formed by the groove and the adjacent wall surface. The sealing compound, which is applied in liquid form and subsequently solidifies, may comprise picein wax, paint or a thermosetting synthetic resin.
