Abstract
581,123. Telephonic and like instruments. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and ROUND, H. J. Sept. 26, 1941, No. 12532. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] In a magnetostrictive instrument, a bar of comparatively large mass is rigidly connected, end to end, to a bar or tube of comparatively small mass. In a radiator, the large mass may be a laminated nickel bar B of square or rectangular section and the small mass may be a hollow steel tube T terminated by a dished diaphragm D. The two masses B, T are soldered and welded, respectively, to a brass plate X. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), two comparable masses are rigidly coupled by a short thin metal rod or tube. An electromechanical filter for sound or like waves may comprise a number of masses connected together by short thin rods, at least one of the masses being of magnetostrictive material.
