Abstract

307,733. Newcombe-Hawley, Inc., (Assignees of Kyle, C). March 12, 1928, [Convention date]. Condenser telephones; diaphragms.-An electrostatic transmitter or reproducer comprises a perforated conductor plate A, a perforated dielectric plate B, a thin metal diaphragm C and a perforated clamping plate D. Bolts 5 surrounded by insulating sleeves 6 serve to clamp the parts together, the bolts being preferably arranged at staggered intervals and the large area diaphragm being divided up into a number of co-operating diaphragms of comparatively small area. The perforations 3 in the dielectric plate are concentric with and larger than the perforations 2 in the plate A whilst the perforations 4 in the plate D are concentric with and of substantially the same size as those in the dielectric plate:. The diaphragm may be of steel, brass, aluminium &c or of thin shim metal or leaf metal such as gold leaf, aluminium leaf &c. In the modification, Fig. 3. the dielectric member H is made flexible and unperforated and is clamped together with the flexible conductor J between the raised surfaces 17 on the plate G and the solid portions 20 of the clamping plate F.
