[Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVIII] Apparatus for directively transmitting or receiving sound or like energy comprises a strip or slab S of magnetostrictive or other material placed in the throat of a horn H having two of its walls parallel to each other and the other two diverging at an increasing rate, the strip or slab being disposed in the throat of the horn so as to face across the throat as shown. The Figure shows a double horn, each end of the slab S being utilized.
