Abstract
581,011. Valve amplifying circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and GLOVER, W. F. Jan. 15, 1944, No. 817. [Class 40 (v)] In a pulse amplifier, the iron cored output transformer has a primary, a secondary and a bias winding, the last being fed by a steady current so that its flux opposes the flux produced by the pulse, so that the whole range of the hysteresis loop of the core may be utilized to enable the amplitude of the pulse to be increased. Fig. 1 shows a two-valve amplifier with the output transformer T in the cathode of V2 feeding the load R2. The biassing coil 5, 6 fed by the steady current from the decoupled cathode of valve V1 produces flux opposite to that produced by pulse current in coil 1, 2. The core of the transformer T thus becomes saturated by the pulse much later than if the bias current were absent, so per-. mitting a larger pulse amplitude. The transformer T may also be in the anode of V2 and the bias coil fed from any other suitable electrode.
