580,432. Making turbine blades. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. July 5, 1944, No. 12801. Convention date, Aug. 9, 1943. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Forging; extruding.-A light metal blade for a turbo-machine is made by pressing a rough piece of metal in a die 2 corresponding, to the root section 17 and forcing some of it through a die 3 which can be adjusted about its axis and correspond to the blade section 18. The thickness of the root is determined by a stop ring 6 of the plunger 5 engaging the .die 2. The dies 2 and 3 have a circular cross-section externally so that they can be angularly adjusted relatively and are held by a key, not shown, inserted in selected ways 11 ... 14, Fig. 3. The blade 18 may be of twisted form or may be guided by a sleeve 7 &c. The dies are tapered to fit a block 1 to facilitate removal by a plunger 10. The block may have electric heating means 8 and a thermo-element 9 for determining its temperature. The mouth of the die 3 at 30 is curved to correspond to the flow lines of the metal being operated upon.
