Abstract

580,402. Velocity-modulated tubes. BULL, C. S. Sept. 2, 1942, No. 12424. [Class 39 (i)] In a reflex tube of the kind in which oscillations to be mixed are applied to the same rhumbatron or to different rhumbatrons, amplified shot noise is reduced by making the time of flight of an unaccelerated electron from a rhumbatron to the reflecting field and back either less than one-sixth of an oscillation or within one-sixth of a whole number of oscillations. The transit time from the rhumbatron towards the cathode and back for a third time to the rhumbatron is preferably also made within one-sixth of a whole number of oscillations.
