[Class 36] Longitudinal layers of polythene and polyvinyl compounds forming the insulation of an electric cable are seamed by enclosing them in a tight-fitting braid or tape and heat-treating them to soften the compounds and cause coalescence. The heat may be provided by a vulcanising chamber or by passing the covered wire through a bath of molten wax. The braid may consist of animal, vegetable, or mineral fibres, or of spun glass or fine wires. A textile braid may be finally impregnated. Specification 562,956, [Group IV], is referred to.
