Abstract

679,218. Cables. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES, Ltd. June 19, 1951 [March 27, 1950], No. 7639/50. Class 36. [Also in Group XXII] An insulated conductor 1 has a sheath consisting of an inner aluminium layer 3 and a tightly fitting outer copper layer 4. Compressed powder may be used for the insulation 2, and the aluminium sheath 3 may be extruded therearound and drawn down on to the insulation as described in Specification 674,994. The sheathed cable is drawn into a copper tube, which is drawn down to make a tight fit on the aluminium sheath. The drawing down may be continued to elongate the cable, and a bond may be effected between the sheaths 3, 4 by subsequent annealing, or by carrying out the drawing down process at a temperature between 100‹ and 350‹ C.
