Abstract
579,774. Ordnance. MOLINS, D. W., RUAU, F. F., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd. May 9, 1944, No. 17457/43. [Classes 92 (i) and 92 (ii)] Relates to automatic or semi-automatic wedge-breech mechanism of the type in which the breech-block is held open by the extractors which are engaged by the rim of a cartridge being loaded to release the breech-block for automatic closing..According to the invention, in order to prevent jams due to rebound of the round during ramming, a spring stop or retainer-shoe 353 is pivoted at 9 in the lower part of the concavity 5 in the breech-block, which stop moves behind the round after it has been fully rammed. The position of the stop is such that the base of a round striking the stop on rebounding will be engaged by the usual chamfer on the block and pushed into the chamber as the breech-block closes. Further, the stop is of substantial width and of curved wedge shape to centre the nose of the round. The spring 108 is of such strength that during ramming the stop guides circumferential edges 14, 15 on the round, Fig. 3, clear of the chamber edge 116, but is depressed by the rim 115 on the base of the round.
