Abstract
305,596. Soc. Italiana E. Breda per Costruzioni Meccaniche. March 5, 1927, [Convention date]. Divided on 286,598. Machine guns.-Relates to guns having a recoiling barrel and fed with cartridges in a belt, and consists in improved means for transferring the cartridges from the belt to the chamber of the gun barrel. A pair of lateral grippers 23, Fig. 3, are mounted on the reciprocating breech-block 7 in a plane parallel with the axis of this block to extract a fresh cartridge from the belt when the breech is opened; and a member 9 is mounted in vertical grooves in the breech-block and has a nose 25 engaged by a cam groove in the breech casing, which causes the member 9 to move down during the opening of the breech and transfer the fresh cartridge extracted by the grippers 23 down grooves 33 in the face of the breech-block into alignment with the gun barrel, where the cartridge is stopped by a spring lever 26. At the same time, the spent cartridge extracted from the chamber by the grooves 33 is ejected by a pawl 24 on the member 9. The belt is fed by a lever mechanism operated by a cam groove in the breech-block as described in Specification 305,595; and the breech-block is itself operated as described in Specification 286,598.
