Abstract
579,311. Liquid-fuel burners. PREECE, SIR G., and DIGHT, S. R. May 18, 1939, No. 14819. [Class 75 (i)] A tray burner 8 for the combustion of oil fuel in a firebrick-lined chamber 1 is formed with a central aperture surrounded by an upstanding lip 10 supporting an air deflector comprising a plate 12 of larger diameter than the aperture having on its under-surface curved vanes 13 and depending legs 14 connected by a ring 15. Air at atmospheric or slightly greater pressure is supplied to the chamber 2 below the chamber 1 through an opening 25 from a chamber 22 surrounding the chambers 1, 2 and enters the burner 8 through the central aperture and holes 11 in the burner wall. The oil fuel is supplied through one or more pipes 26 opening slightly above the floor of the burner. The deflector may be raised for cleaning &c. by a lever 19 engaging a rod 17 depending from the plate 12 and operable on the removal of a door 21 in the chamber 2. The chamber 22 is so dimensioned as to be acoustically non-resonant with the combustion space and uptake.
