Abstract
578,501. Pipe joints. LAMONT & CO., Ltd., J. H., and WEST, R. S. Dec. 5, 1944, No. 24255. [Class 99 (i)] A pipe coupling device comprises an internally screw threaded coupling nut 7 having a rearwardly extending sleeve integral with the nut, the internal conical surface of the sleeve converging rearwardly from a recess 11 of greater diameter than and behind the thread in the nut, and a bush 12 revolubly retained in the sleeve and having rearwardly tapered internal and external surfaces. The bush engages one conical surface of a double conical sealing ring 21 the other end of which engages in the tapered socket 19 of the coupling member 18. The device may be used in the type of coupling in which a flared pipe end is clamped by the coupling nut over a double conical ring such as 21. The sleeve of the nut may be initially cylindrical and the bush 12 may have a projection engaging an undercut recess in the sleeve, the sleeve and bush being swaged to conical form after assembly.
