Abstract
578,146. Tap grinding. ROLLASON, S. H. Dec. 5, 1944, No. 24265. [Class 60] A tap, the lead of which is to be ground with relief, is held against a grinding disc by a chuck eccentrically mounted in a cylindrical member rockable about an axis parallel to that of the chuck ; means are provided for indexing the chuck, for limiting the rocking movement and for setting the range of the rocking movement. A base plate 11 rotatably supports a housing 12 in which a rockable spindle 13 is journalled in bearings 14, 15. Eccentrically mounted within the spindle is a shank 16 fast with an indexing ring 17 to which a chuck 18, carrying a tap 23, is bolted. Mounted on a flange 24 fast with the spindle 13 is a plate 26 carrying an operating and rocking handle 28 containing a spring pressed plunger 33 which co-operates with a series of indexing holes 34 or 35. To limit the rocking movement an abutment pin 31, carried on an adjustable cap 32, enters a slot 30 in a ring 29.
