Abstract
789,806. Lathe-details. COURTOIS, J. M. June 25, 1954 [June 29, 1953], No. 18616/54. Class 83 (3). A lathe-turret comprises a body 1 rotatable on a spindle - unit 8 attached by a base 9<SP>1</SP> to a lathe slide 50, the body being locked in various angular positions by pins 19 engaging pairs of notches 11, 18 respectively formed in the periphery of base 9<SP>1</SP> and in two members 15 fixed in slots 5 formed in the body, a number, e.g. four notches being provided in the base. Spindle 92 extends from the base and threadedly engages a nut 36 carrying a nut 34 engaging a screw 33 having cross-pins 29, 32 engaging slots 13, 14 in the spindle. The pins 19 are pivoted to a carrier 21 having arms in slots of body 1 and a centralboss surrounding spindle 9<SP>2</SP>. A spring 28 extends between pin 29 and the carrier to urge the pins into the notches. A cap 43 covers nut 36 and has a handle 48 which, when turned to unclamp the turret, turns nut 36, thus raising screw 33 which lifts, via cross-pin 32, the pins 19 out of the notches, whereby the turret may be turned manually. On turning the handle in the reverse direction, the pins are lowered and urged by spring 28 into the co-operating pairs of notches. Of each pair of diametrically opposed notches 11, one has oblique walls 11<SP>1</SP>, which cause the coacting pin 19 to centre the turret and align the other pair of notches 11, 18 for the other pin 19. A spring-loaded plunger (not shown), in the lower part 3 of body 1 engages one of the notches in the base 9<SP>1</SP> to provide rough location of the turret prior to the locking thereof.
