Abstract

580,949. Rolling screw threads. FORGAARD, H. L. Aug. 2, 1944, No. 14740. [Class 83 (iv)] Axial rolling.-An attachment to a lathe &c. for producing rolled threads comprises two L-shaped members 10 which bear one against. the other and are mounted on a pivot 25 and are capable of adjustment vertically. Further, they are capable of adjustment in relation to each other. Each member 10 carries a hob 14 fixed to a spindle 13 which is free to rotate when the hobs are in contact with the work. The hob is capable of lateral movement against spring pressure. The hobs are maintained in correct angular relationship with one another by the employment of detents 34 in contact with axial projections 33 on the spindle 13 provided through the medium of collar 31. The detents are maintained in contact with the axial projections by means of torsion spring 39. The working head assembly is carried on a shank 4 capable of axial and rotatory movement in a block 41. The hobs are thereby capable of automatic adjustment to the axis of the work.
