Abstract

551,348. Lathes. TURNER BROS. (BIRMINGHAM), Ltd., and HUGHES, T. Oct. 10, 1941, No. 13080. [Class 83 (iii)] In a method of and apparatus for turning internal spherical surfaces 28, the tool 23 mounted in an arm 10 is moved in an arcuate path in a diametral plane of the sphere by oscillating it about an axis 11 passing through the centre of the sohere. The pivot is fitted in the forked end 12 of a bar 13 which may be fixed in a capstan-lathe toolpost, and the end of arm 10 is engaged by the rounded end of a spindle 15 screwing into a lug 14 secured to the bar 13. Return movement of the tool arm is effected bv a spring 18. The tool 23 is secured by a screw 25 and may be adjusted to vary the radius of the cut by a screwed cap 26 engaging a shoulder 22 on the tool.
