Abstract

872,847. Work - holders. COVENTRY GAUGE & TOOL CO. Ltd. Dec. 2,1958 [Dec. 5, 1957], No. 37878/57. Class 83 (3). In a compound-angle sine table, the workholding face 1 is set to the required angle by slip-gauges 12 under balls 15. The spherical part 6 of the member 1, Fig.. 2, co-operates with the surface 5 of the base 2 and has an aperture 30 to allow passage of a locking-bolt 22 having a ball 23 co-operating with a socket 24, 26 and clamped by a nut 29. The ball 23 is located at the geometric centre of the surfaces 5, 6, and the balls 15 are located on a diametral plane of the surface 6. In a modification the concave surface is on member 1 and the convex surface 6 is on member 2, and the bolt 22 is inverted. Another modification (Fig. 5, not shown), the bolt 22 is inclined to the vertical so that the nut 29 is accessible from the side of the base 2.
