712,513. Linear-dimension gauges. GUILLAUME. H. March 7, 1952 [May 17, 1951], No. 6045/52. Class 106 (2) A gauging-apparatus for measuring and checking work pieces having non-parallel faces, for example, a tapered member as shown in Fig. 8. comprises in combination a support c having at least two plane faces, one of which engages a reference plane B against which the workpiece A is engaged, contact means E, J which engage the other plane face of the support C and of which the part E is a semi-cylindrical contact member supported so as to be turnable about an axis which is parallel to the reference plane so that it may be brought into engagement with the workpiece and a measuring device such as a micrometer F for engagement with the contact means E, J. The semi-cylindrical member E may be held in position in a groove in the part J, Fig. 3, by an elastic tie L. The space occupied by the part J and the member E must be subtracted from the micrometer reading. If the work-piece under test is conical then an assembly C, E, J is used on both sides of the work-piece as shown in Fig. 5. For gauging inside diameters of conical members as in Fig. 6, the semicylindrical members E are formed with protruding segments e1 e2 on their gauging surfaces.
