Abstract

578,093. Supply systems for space discharge apparatus; transformers. STEVENS, A. H. (Boucher Inventions, Ltd.). May 26, 1943, No. 8424. [Classes 38 (ii) and 38 (iv)] A supply system for two fluorescent tubes, T1, T2, comprises a high leakage reactance transformer 11 having two secondary windings S1, S2 each connected to a tube, there being flux shunts arranged between the secondary windings and the primary winding means and the reluctance of the shunt paths being different. Each secondary winding may supply one lamp, a condenser being in series with the winding associated with the flux shunt of higher reluctance ; the current in this lamp may be mainly controlled by the condenser and the shunt associated with the winding concerned may be eliminated. In a modification the two secondaries, the two tubes and a condenser may be in series. The transformer may have two primary windings connected in series or in parallel in either bucking or aiding relationship. Fig. 1 shows one arrangement the flux shunt sh3, sh4 having greater air gaps than the flux shunt sh1, sh2.
