[Class 9 (ii)] Electromagnetically-operated trip-gear for the release-lever 26 of bomb-release apparatus is mounted in a two-part casing 10, one compartment of which houses the electromagnet 11 with its main armature 18 and safety armature 20, the other compartment containing the operating-spring 24 and release-lever 26, the whole casing being closed by a dust-proof coverplate which seals the first compartment. Before release, the release-lever presses by its incline x against a plunger 28 pressed downwards by a spring 35 acting on toggle-levers 33 which are near the dead-centre position. The main armature 18, pivoted at 19, engages the upper arm of an L-shaped lever 29 pivoted at 30 to the upper end of the plunger 28, and is further retained by a safety-armature 20 pivoted at 21. On energizing the magnet through a spring-contact 14 bearing on a thimble contact 13, the safety-armature is first actuated to free the pin 9 on the armature 18 which then moves away from the upper arm of the lever 29 to release the toggle and free the release-lever. The release causes the stud 39 on the lower arm of the lever 29 to engage the contact 14 to break the circuit through the magnet. The parts are reset by returning the release-lever by pressure on a part 40. For testing purposes, the main armature 18 may be manually operated by a pin 45 on a press-button 42.
