[Class 78 (i)] [Also in Group VI] A roll of dough is carried beneath a vertically reciprocating slicing knife 13 by belts 6, 7 the cut slices being removed by further belts 8, 9 travelling at a higher speed, and deposited in a rotating annular trough 22. The belt 7 is halted momentarily by the knife 13, the driving chain 16 being led over spring-mounted jockey sprockets 18, 19 which are deflected while the drive is interrupted and which, by the action of the springs, take up the lost travel when the knife rises.
