Abstract
576,831. Mining-machines. FULKE, F. L. Jan. 29, 1943, No. 1567. [Class 68 (i)] A cutter-bit for the cutter-chain of a mining- machine comprises a rod of uniform section having at each end an integral chisel-shaped heading providing two opposed cutting faces each with a cutting point, said faces converging inwardly of said points. In Figs. 2 and 3, the bit comprises a cylindrical rod 24 provided with symmetrical chisel-shaped ends 25, 33, at right angles to each other to form cutting faces 29, 31, with cutting points 28, 30 ; the lengths of the chisel edges 27 are at least twice the diameter of the rod. The rod may be of square section, and the chisel ends may have their edges 27 in the same plane. In Fig. 6, the bit comprises a rectangular rod 51 with chisel ends 52, 55, providing cutting points 60, 61, 64, 65, adjacent relieved cutting faces 58, 59, 62, 63. In Fig. 5, a bit as in Fig. 2 engages a corresponding recessed surface in the head 16 of a bit holder provided with a shank 17 held in the socket 11 of a bit block 10 by means of a screw 21, the head 16 having lateral arms 19 fitting in grooves 12 in the bit block, and the acting cutting point 28 being behind those on the opposite end of the bit.
