Abstract
885,807. Percussive tools. HIGHER SPEED METALS Ltd. Oct. 19, 1960 [April 13, 1960], No. 13130/60. Class 124 [Also in Group XXI] The hard metal tip 11 of a mineral-mining pick or a rock drill is so shaped that when secured in the body 1A of the pick or drill maximum prorection against wear of the material of the body is provided. The tip has a base formed with parallel side faces 12 and with edge faces 13 substantially at right angles to one another so that each side face at the lower extremity is V-shaped. At the junction between the base and head portions of the tip the head portion is of considerably greater section than the base so that a shoulder is formed that projects laterally beyond each side face. These shoulders when the tip is inserted in an end milled recess in the end of the body of the pick or drill abut and project beyond the end surfaces of the pick or drill.
